A message from Donna Okell
our Founder and B Leader
2021 was a lightbulb moment for me
Having spent a long career comprising leadership roles at the family business, financial institutions, and latterly as the CEO of Cheshire Connect, a skills-exchange charity, I finally found an opportunity to combine my skills, experience, connections, and determination to shape a better world for my children and future generations.
That opportunity was B Corp.
B Corps are businesses which consider the impact of their decisions on their people, communities, and the planet.
They are transparent, and legally accountable.
To become B Corp Certified a business must complete a rigorous online assessment called the B Impact Assessment (BIA), and that’s where I thought I could help…
…To succeed it seemed we needed ‘simply’ to inspire, inform, and enable organisations to do four things well:
1. Understand and improve their impact on their people, communities and the planet.
2. Be transparent.
3. Be accountable.
4. Amplify our voices: collaborate and lead to grow the better business movement.
And repeat…
And what a journey it has been so far.
I was super-proud to announce that on 30th March 2023 UK for Good was awarded B Corp Certification with a whopping 109.8 points.
The task now is to continue to better understand and improve our impact, and help other business leaders do the same.
Let’s shape a better world together.
Best wishes,
Donna
Why Measure Our Impact?
The world is in a pickle, both socially and environmentally, and we’re facing some pretty tough headwinds.
But we have the power and passion to change the world for Good.
It is the responsibility of, and opportunity for all business leaders to step up and shape a world that our people, communities and the planet deserve.
So what does that mean for UK for Good?
Our plans for next year are simple.
We are committed to better understanding and further improving OUR impact. That means helping more businesses better understand and improve THEIR impact.
