What I learnt at the Sustainability Show…
Last week I went to the London Sustainability Show, showcasing businesses and brilliant thinkers, who are paving the way toward a better future.
Ben Fogle said himself, he felt
“huge empowerment in the many people who have come here today”
I shared that.
While I had fun with the Bristol Fungarium, talking veg with Hugh Furnley-Whittingstall, and pretending the Elvis & Kresse bag was mine…
… The greatest joy I took away was feeling like I am part of a community of people, united by a vision of a better future.
I was in a vast space, full of strangers, but we felt like a community.
That’s because we were all there for the same reason.
In fact, 72% of people in the UK believe that business should have a legal responsibility to the planet and people, alongside maximising profits.
72%, that’s the vast majority of the UK, who want businesses to protect the rights of our planet and its people.
There’s an evident disconnect between the actions of government and businesses, with the social shift in who people want to buy from and work for.
The bottom line is, the world needs business at its best.
Businesses to stand up for people and planet, and demonstrate a better way.
I look forward to the day these ‘sustainability shows’ are simply ‘life shows’; once sustainable and circular living becomes normality, not revolutionary.
As Ben Fogle said "It is brilliant to see so many small and large businesses influencing us to make changes"
I left believing more than ever that through business as a force For Good we can, and we will, make the change this world needs.
It was a beautiful reminder that, despite the very real urgency we feel, we’re far from alone on this mission to save our planet.
Next year… Manchester! If you’re a business of any size, who’s purpose driven and here to make some positive change, it could be a great opportunity to showcase your amazing work, and connect with likeminded businesses.
